Rare primate returned to nature in Binh Phuoc province

Binh Phuoc (VNA) – The forest ranging department of Dong Phudistrict, the southern province of Binh Phuoc, said it joined hands withcompetent authorities to release a female stump-tailed macaque intothe nature.

The animal, weighing 4 kilogrammes, belongs to an endangered, precious andrare species listed in Group IIB of the Vietnam Red Data Book.

The primate was found straying in Thuan Phu commune, Dong Phu district. It wasthen captured and taken to the department where it receivedproper care and came back to good health conditions before being returned to thenature.

The stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides), also called the bear macaque, is nativeto South Asia and Southeast Asia. It lives in tropical and subtropicalevergreen forests, with altitudes of up to 2,000 metres. The animal is foundacross Vietnam, including in Lai Chau’s Tuan Giao, Quy Nhai, Kim Son and MuongTe districts; Lao Cai’s Sapa and Sinh Ho districts; and Dak Lak’s Krong No, Dac Min Ea Sup, and M'Drak districts./.

Vietnam ram𝓰ps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
