Red Dao group’s costume decoration art recognised as national heritage

A ceremony was held in the northern province of Tuyen Quang on October 12 to receive a certificate recognising the art of Red Dao ethnic people’s traditional costume decoration as a national intangible cultural heritage.

- A ceremony was held in the northern province ofTuyen Quang on October 12 to receive a certificate recognising the art of RedDao ethnic people’s traditional costume decoration as a national intangiblecultural heritage.

The making of the colourful and elaborately decorated costumes of Red Dao isvery sophisticated, requiring a lot of diligence, creativity and meticulousnessin every step.

A set of traditional costumes of Red Dao women include a blouse, trousers,belt, and headwear. The most important part of the outfit is the long-sleeveblouse, which covers over their trousers and is commonly in black or indigocolours.

Meanwhile, the men typically wear a short shirt with long trousers, and ahead-scarf.

The recognition is significant in preserving and promoting traditional culturalvalues while popularising cultural features of ethnic minority groups in TuyenQuang province.

Tuyen Quang province is now home to around 90,600 Dao ethnic people. Red Daopeople mainly live in Son Phu, Sinh Long and Nang Kha communes of Na Hangdistrict and Tho Binh commune of Lam Binh district./.
