A Memorandum of Understanding signed in Soc Trang on August 17 marked the debut of a Republic of Korea-funded project on coastal ecology research and water quality analysis in the Mekong Delta province. Accordingly, a 400-million-KRW (337,600 USD) sponsorship from the Yeosu Foundation will be channelled into the project.
The provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the Republic of Korea’s Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM) are coordinating the initiative from July 2015 through June 2017. Research is being carried out along the coasts of Trung Binh commune in Tran De district and Vinh Chau town to form a water quality map and put ecological protection strategies forward. Director of the department Tran Ngoc An said it is also a chance for local scientists and personnel to improve their capacity and upgrade research equipment.-VNA
