Requiem for traffic victims to be held in HCM City

A requiem for the souls of traffic accidents will be held at Vinh Nghiem pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City on November 9.
A requiem for the souls of traffic accidents will be held at Vinh Nghiem pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City on November 9.

Theevent, jointly organised by the National Traffic Safety Committee(NTSC) and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), is part of activities inresponse to World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Road TrafficAccidents, which falls on the third Sunday of November.

It will see the participation of over 3,000 of Buddhist monks, nuns and followers and relatives of traffic accident victims.

Theevent is call on agencies from central to local levels, organisations,individuals and the entire people to raise awareness of abiding bytraffic regulations on traffic safety and order as well as sharing thegrief suffered by victims’ families, Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman ofthe committee, said.

Road accidents kill 1.3 million people everyyear the world over, a figure which is forecast to climb to 1.8-1.9million in the near future. In Vietnam, 9,000 people die in roadaccidents every year, more than 20 per day on average.-VNA
