RoK confirms investigations on killed Vietnamese bride

The Republic of Korea (RoK) government will carry out investigations on the case of a Vietnamese bride killed by her Korean husband and inform the Vietnamese side about the results of the investigations as soon as possible.

Theaffirmation was made by Park Hae Yun, Director of the South Asia andPacific Division under the RoK Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,while visiting the Vietnamese Embassy in Seoul on May 24 to offersympathy to the victim.

According to the VietnameseMinistry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), 23-year-old bride named Hoang ThiNam in Thang Hai commune, Phan Thiet city, the central province ofBinh Thuan , was stabbed by her 37-year-old Korean husband early on May24 in Cheongdo district in Gyeongsangbuk province. The victim gavebirth to their son just 19 days ago.

At present, the murderer, Lim Chae Won, has been detained by police for investigations.

Right after receiving the news, the MoFA instructed the VietnameseEmbassy in the RoK to urgently coordinate with local authorised agenciesto clarify the incident.

The Vietnamese Embassysent a representative to the site to witness an autopsy on the victim’sbody and work with the local authorities to undertake procedures andidentify her records and native village.

TheVietnamese government has paid much attention to Vietnamese citizens whoare living and working in the RoK, including Vietnamese brides.

In the face of recent incidents for Vietnamese brides who get marriedto Korean husbands, Vietnam’s high-ranking leaders have asked the RoKside to strengthen measures to protect Vietnamese citizens in thecountry, especially Vietnamese brides.

The RoKgovernment has set up a working team, including representatives ofrelevant ministries and agencies, to check, reorganise and clean upinternational marriage brokerage activities in order to protect foreignbrides as well as build legal documents relating to foreign marriage andmulti-cultural families.

Over the past years, theVietnamese Embassy in the RoK has actively supported the Vietnamesecommunity, including coordinating with local authorities to helpVietnamese brides soon stabilise their lives and integrate into the RoKsociety./.
