RoK delegation tops Golden Racket table tennis championship

Winning all gold medals in the men’s single, men’s team and women’s team events helped the squad from the Republic of Korea (RoK) secure the first place at the 29 th Golden Racket International Table Tennis Championship which took place at the Nguyen Du Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City from July 23-26.

Thechampionship title in the men’s team event went to RoK team A after theybeat their team B comrades 3-0. Meanwhile, female players pocketed thegold after defeating the Japanese team 3-1.

Thrashing Peng Bofrom Guangxi (China) 4-1, Kim Gang Woog became the champion in the men’ssingle event. The RoK team also bagged a bronze medal in this event.

ZengJian from Singapore, who is standing at No. 62 in the InternationalTable Tennis Federation ranking, went up against Li Tian from Guangxi4-0 to win a gold in the women’s single category.

The hostVietnam took only one bronze medal from the men’s team event. Its playerTran Tuan Quynh had to stop at the quarterfinal after losing tochampion Kim Gang Woog.

This tournament’s competitors included 85players from Asian countries and territories, including India, HongKong (China), Japan, the RoK, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The RoK team also won last year’s event with two gold, twosilver and two bronze medals, followed by China’s Hong Kong with twogold medals and one bronze medal. This year’s second place was usurpedby the Singaporean delegation.-VNA
