RoK guitar star to return to Vietnam

Sung-ha Jung, a guitar prodigy from the Republic of Korea (RoK), is returning to Vietnam for two concerts on April 18 and 19 in Hanoi and HCM City respectively, the country’s Youth Theatre announced on April 9.

Sungha Jung performed in Vietnam in 2014 and instantly won the hearts of music lovers, particularly those fond of the guitar.

The19 year-old superstar is renowned for his fingerstyle technique, whichinvolves plucking strings with fingertips, nails and finger picks ratherthan hitting individual notes with a plectrum. He began playing theguitar at the age of five and has risen to fame through videos posted onhis YouTube channel and social media.

His cover of“The Pirates of the Caribbean”, which currently has over 45 millionviews, made Jung an internet sensation. As well as covers he has alsocomposed his own music in different styles and has released six albums.He has been invited to work with famous artists and has toured in manyforeign countries.

His latest Vietnam tour will be supported bythe country’s Fingerstyle Guitar Organisation, which has thousands ofmembers nationwide and provides a space for Vietnam’s guitar-lovingcommunity to develop the genre, bring it to a more professional leveland create links with the international music community.-VNA
