Sa Huynh Civilisation relic site in Quang Ngai earns special national status

Quang Ngai (VNA) – The SaHuynh Civilisation relic site in Duc Pho township of the central province of QuangNgai has earned a special national status as recognised by the Prime Ministerrecently.

The provincial People’s Committeeheld a ceremony on March 24 to receive the special national relic sitecertificate.

Tran Hoang Tuan, Standing ViceChairman of the People’s Committee, said that in 1909, French archaeologist M.Vinetdiscovered antiquities of the Sa Huynh Civilisation. These ancient artifacts first appeared about3,000 years ago and ended in the first century AD. Through differentexcavations, archaeologists continually found traces of a civilisation, includingabout 500 burial jars containing many accompaniments, across the coastalcentral, southeastern, and Central Highlands regions.

Among those localities, Quang Ngaiis considered the cradle of the Sa Huynh Civilisation as it is home to 26 relicsites among the over 80 sites discovered and excavated, he noted.

Tuan went on to say that for more than a century, Vietnamese and foreign scientists have made efforts instudying this civilisation and achieved considerable strides. They have founded and recorded a large number of relic sites while collecting and restoring thousands of antiquities.

The recognition of the Sa Huynhrelic site in Duc Pho township as a special national one is a great honour and alsogives Quang Ngai authorities and residents a responsibility to preserve andbring into play the site’s special values./.
