HCM City (VNS/VNA) – The Salonpas HCMC Marathon openedon January 7 in the Phu My Hung Urban Area of the country's southern economic hub with the participation of 10,000local and foreign runners.
During the two-day tournament, the runners compete in 42km, 21km, 10km and 5kmraces.
It also features 500 children aged three to 10 in two categories:1.5km and 500m.
The marathon is organised by the HCM City Athletics Federation andPulse Active, a sports-tourism and lifestyle-entertainment company, along withthe Department of Culture and Sports.
Japanese pharmaceutical company Hisamitsu (producer of the painrelief patch Salonpas) is the main sponsor.
HCMC Marathon is one of Vietnam’s largest marathons, and it hasbeen held annually since 2013. The marathon aims to encourage more people totake part in sports activities.
This year’s event has a total prize of over 700 million VND (29,825USD).
Over the years the marathon has steadily been gaining popularityso much so that the number of runners this year has doubled from inaugural onein 2013.

Jeff Campbell from Canada and Vanja Cnops from Belgium won the 70km category of the Vietnam Jungle Marathon (VJM) held in Pu Luong Nature Reserve in central Thanh Hoa province at last weekend.
A new running event, OneWay Marathon – Step over Your Limit, was launched on December 6 on the beautiful island of Cat Ba, the northern port city of Hai Phong.
National athletes Nguyen Thi Oanh and Do Quoc Luat met no difficulty in winning the first Vietnam International Half Marathon, the first sporting event of the year on January 1 in Hanoi.
Nearly 3,500 runners from 32 countries and territories were present in Moc Chau district, the northwestern province of Son La on January 7 to participate in Vietnam Trail Marathon (VTM) 2023.
This year’s tournament has gathered over 300 coaches, athletes, and referees from 18 countries and territories, competing in 28 combat weight categories and eight performance categories. Vietnam’s team has 50 athletes, including six from Thai Nguyen province.
It is the first time that the country is to hold a G1-level tournament which is expected to lure more than 100 athletes of 15 countries and regions at Go Vap Gymnasium.
Nguyen Trong Nha Uyen has made history for Vietnam’s dancesport by clinching a bronze medal in the solo Latin category at the WDSF World Championship 2025 in Germany.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. For the first time, Vietnamese audiences will have the opportunity to experience the ballet masterpiece "Don Quixote" in its original version by renowned choreographer Marius Petipa.
