Seminar discusses media’s role in promoting sea economy

Journalists in six northern central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue are gathering at a seminar in Nghe An province to sharpen up their skills in promoting the sea-based economy.

The three-day event, which opened on June 23, is part of the VietnamJournalists Association’s efforts to increase its members’ awarenessabout the role of the media in advocating the marine-based economy.
 
Representatives from local press agencies and authoritiesdeliver reports highlighting the potential and advantages of sea-basedtourism in the region as well as its shortcomings.

They alsounderline the need of raising public awareness of the position andimportance of Vietnam ’s sea and islands, and enhancing quality anddiversity of the dissemination, saying that it is necessary to improvecontent and modes of broadcasting.

The event provides anopportunity for the participants to share experiences, working togetherto improve the distribution of information.

In recent years,journalists’ associations and press agencies in the region have attachedimportance to strengthening national sea and island promotion.

Many endorsements appear in newspapers and broadcast on the radio andtelevision. They introduce traditional cultural values, touristpotentials and strengths of coastal provinces, as well as models forsustainable development of marine resources.

With a coastlineof more than 600 kilometres and beautiful beaches such as Sam Son, CuaLo, Thien Cam, Nhat Le and Cua Tung, the northern central provinces seethe huge potential in developing sea tourism and their economies.-VNA
