Hanoi (VNA) – Low-cost models and sustainable energy solutionsapplied for the community in rural and mountainous areas were introduced at a recentseminar in Hanoi, which was jointly held by the US Agency for InternationalDevelopment (USAID), Live & Learn and the French Cultural Centre (L’Espace)in Hanoi.

Among the solutions were wind-power generators using recycled materialsfor the community living on Red River’s sand-bank, renovated cooking stove forrural and mountainous households, and air filter using solar power.

Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of the The he xanh (Green Generation) JSC,held that using traditional stoves of Vietnam is harmful for both human healthand the environment.

Therefore, the company has developed new models of cooking stoves to savematerials and protect people’s health and the environment by reducing carbonemissions.

As the company’s calculation, the model will save 50-60 percent offirewood and reduce one tonne of CO2 each year as well as 85-90 percent ofdust. The model is suitable to rural and mountainous areas, which will be multipliedin the future, he said.

Meanwhile, the Green ID Vietnam also proposed the speeding up of projectsto develop socio-economic benefits of developing renewable energy, includingactivities to popularize knowledge related to renewable energy and climatechange response among policy-makers.

The using of traditional fuel such as fossil coal and oil has been popularin Vietnam, which caused environmental pollution and affected people’s health. In that context, renewable power development plans and solutions have beenimplemented throughout the country through Government’s programmes and effortsof social organisations and private firms.-VNA
