A seminar on the Vietnam-Mexico bilateral relationship was recently held in Mexico’s capital, Mexico City, drawing the participation of a number of international officials, experts and students.

The September 9-10 event, under the framework of the “Vietnam Week in Mexico”, was co-organised by the Mexican Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee for the Asia-Pacific and the Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico.

Chairman of the Committee Senator Teofilo Torres Corzo gave participants an overview of the development of diplomatic ties between the two nations, which were established in 1975, as well as bilateral cooperation in the context of international integration.

The host officials pointed out the similarities in the history and culture between the two sides, adding that Vietnam-Mexico trade has exceeded 2 billion USD.

Appreciating the potential of multifaceted bilateral cooperation, the Mexican side suggested the two countries increase information and delegation exchanges, and facilitate business activities with a view to elevate their economic ties ahead.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Le Linh Lan affirmed Vietnam’s foreign policy of openness and independence, stressing the economic cooperation potential between Vietnam and Mexico in particular as well as ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance (including Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile) in general.

She also asserted Vietnam’s determination to raise bilateral callaboration between Vietnam and Mexico to a higher level.
