Hanoi (VNA) –
The seventh National Environmental Film Festival will open for entries fromAugust 20 to September 31, 2019, organisers said at a press conference in Hanoion August 19.

The entries must beproduced between January 1, 2016 and October 15, 2019,  focusing on themes such as measures andsolutions to waste issues, scientific-technological advances in environmentalprotection, the prevention of violations of laws on environmental protection, theeconomical and effective use of natural resources, natural preservation,economic development adaptable to climate change, initiatives and models inenvironmental protection and communication work in this regard.

They will compete inthe categories of documentary, science film, reportage and cartoon.

The best 16 works willbe announced at a ceremony scheduled to be held in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Speaking at the pressconference, Vu Minh Ly, Deputy Director of the Communications Centre of theMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment, said the the previous editionsof the triennial film festival attracted 584 entries, with 146 awarded.

The festival hascontributed to improving the role of cinematography and television inenvironmental protection, he added.–VNA

Vie✃tnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
