After 10 years of captivity, six Asian black bears have been rescued from a farm in Buon Ma Thuot City in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak Province.

Dak Lak (VNA) - After 10 years of captivity, six Asian black bears have beenrescued from a farm in Buon Ma Thuot City in the Central Highlands province of DakLak Province.
AnimalsAsia, an NGO, said in a statement issued on December 6 that the bears weretransferred to its Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre in Tam Dao National Park.
It said mostof the bears were in poor health after living in captivity at the farm for along time. The suffered from tooth decay and had injuries on their limbs.
One malebear had a third of its tongue cut and an infected leg.
This is thesecond successful bear rescue operation in Dak Lak Province, after an Asianblack bear was saved from a farm in Buon Ma Thuot City in September.
Earlier thismonth, Animals Asia also rescued four Asian black bears from two farms in theCentral Highlands province of Gia Lai.
Thus far,the NGO has rescued 175 bears, of which 161 are living at the Bear RescueCentre in Tam Đảo National Park in Vinh Phuc Province. The other 14 wererescued just this year from Da Nang City and the provinces of Nam Dinh, GialLai, Dak Lak and Lam Dong.
TheInternational Union of Conservation of Nature has listed the Asian black bearas a vulnerable species.
Over 1,200bears have been rescued from bear farms or households. Many bears have beenbred for extracting their bile, to be kept as pets or to perform incircuses.-VNA
