Social insurance sector holds first development partnership conference

Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam Social Security (VSS) hosted thefirst ever development partnership conference in Hanoi on November 30, drawingthe participation of dozens of representatives of foreign donors.
The event aims to report and consult foreigndonors and partners on the social security sector’s development goals andorientations as well as seek further cooperation possibilities in the comingtime.
At the event, donors pledged to accompany Vietnamin the implementation of social security policies.
Nozomi Iwama, Senior Representative of the JapanInternational Cooperation Agency said that JICA is exploring the possibility ofsupporting health finance for the VSS.
The two agencies started their cooperation onstrengthening health insurance in October, she added.
Since its inception 22 years ago, Vietnam’sinsurance sector has seen significant development. The number of peopleparticipating in social security schemes increased from 2.2 million in 1995 tonearly 80 million people in 2017.

According to Nuno Meira Simoes Cunha, SeniorTechnical Specialist on Social Protection of the International LabourOrganisation, there has been significant development in administration andmanagement in Vietnam’s social security.
Vietnam is joining the group of most developedsystem when it comes to IT management and information system, he added.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Social Securitylaunched the English version of its e-portal, marking the sector’s greatefforts in setting up an information channel between the social insurancesector and international community.
Nguyen Tien Thanh, Director of the VSS’sInternational Cooperation Department said the information and databaseavailable in English language will enable those who are interested in Vietnam’ssocial security in general and social insurance in particular to search andshare information as well as discuss on related issues.
