Sport events held for Vietnamese students, workers in RoK

The 13th Vietnam Student Sports Festival in the Republic of Korea (RoK) was held in Ansan city on August 19-20.

Seoul (VNA) – The 13th Vietnam Student Sports Festival in theRepublic of Korea (RoK) was held in Ansan city on August19-20.

Nearly 1,000 Vietnamese students, graduates and peopleliving in the RoK competed in seven sports.

Nguyen Viet Anh, Minister-Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassyin the RoK, said that this is the biggest and most anticipated annual event ofVietnamese students in the host country.

It helped enhance solidarity among the Vietnamesestudents as well as the Vietnamese community in the RoK, and promote the image ofyoung and dynamic Vietnamese students to international friends, thus contributingto the cohesion among them and the host country’s organisations andbusinesses and to developing the Vietnam-RoK relations, according to theVietnamese Students Association in the RoK (VSAK) – the organiser of thefestival.

On August 20, a football tournament for Vietnamese labourersworking in the RoK under the Employment Permit System (EPS) was also organisedin Ansan city.

It attracted 20 teams from Seoul capital,Gyeonggi province and Incheon city.

Minister-Counsellor Anh said that since 2004, as many as 140,000Vietnamese people have travelled to the RoK to work under the EPS programme,and made contributions to boost the two countries’ relations.

He stated that the Vietnamese Embassy always hopes Vietnamese workers will unite, abide by contracts, comply with regulations on residence and otherprovisions of the Korean law, and together build an image of dynamic, creativeand well integrated Vietnamese workforce./.

ꦬ Vietnamese culture takes centre stage in Korean city

The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.

ꦺ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
