Hanoi (VNA) - Storm Noul, the fifth to enter the East Sea thisyear, made landfall in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on September 18morning, causing heavy downpours, strong winds and lightning.
Accordingly, strong windswith speeds of 90-100 km per hour swept through the locality in over 30 minutesfrom 8:30am, making dozens of ancient trees, electricity poles and gates ofseveral buildings fall off, and blowing off roofs of many houses.
Mountainous Nam Dong districtrecorded the highest volume of rainfall at 204mm.
Also in the morning,due to impact of the fifth storm, a whirlwind occurred in the central provinceof Ha Tinh at around 5:00am, blowing off roofs of over 60 local houses.
The whirlwind,together with heavy rains, also affected a large area of crops./.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on September 16 issued a notice, asking relevant ministries, agencies and localities to keep a close eye on the development of Storm Noul and put forth specific tasks.
