Storm Noul makes landfall in Thua Thien-Hue

Storm Noul, the fifth to enter the East Sea this year, made landfall in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on September 18 morning, causing heavy downpours, strong winds and lightning.

Hanoi (VNA) - Storm Noul, the fifth to enter the East Sea thisyear, made landfall in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on September 18morning, causing heavy downpours, strong winds and lightning.

Accordingly, strong windswith speeds of 90-100 km per hour swept through the locality in over 30 minutesfrom 8:30am, making dozens of ancient trees, electricity poles and gates ofseveral buildings fall off, and blowing off roofs of many houses.

Mountainous Nam Dong districtrecorded the highest volume of rainfall at 204mm.

Also in the morning,due to impact of the fifth storm, a whirlwind occurred in the central provinceof Ha Tinh at around 5:00am, blowing off roofs of over 60 local houses.

The whirlwind,together with heavy rains, also affected a large area of crops./.

Vietnam ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuꦅse, treatment ef🀅forts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
