Suspension bridges prioritised to be built before rainy season

The central province of Quang Nam is speeding up the construction of suspension bridges to ensure safe travel for people in mountainous areas, especially in the rainy season.
The central province of Quang Nam is speeding up the construction ofsuspension bridges to ensure safe travel for people in mountainousareas, especially in the rainy season.

These bridges are part ofthe Ministry of Transport’s plan to build suspension bridges in 28provinces in the northern, central and Central Highlands regions.Priority is given to building bridges in mountainous districts whereinhabitants are mainly ethnic minority people.

Accordingly, 14suspension bridges with a total length of 1,200m in Quang Nam areexpected to put into operation before the rainy season, which beginsfrom September. They are built with a total investment of 63 billion VND(about 3 million USD).

The province has asked for financialassistance worth nearly 51 billion VND (2.4 million USD) from theministry and the National Road Maintenance Fund to repair 44 existingbridges and construct several new ones in areas prone to floods.

Accordingto statistics from the provincial Transport Department, there are atotal of 136 suspension bridges in need of repair or construction toserve the travel of local people in mountainous areas.-VNA
