Technical assistance project for Vietnam’s sustainable development launched

The Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment and the Asian Development Bank recently held a workshop to launch a technical assistance project for countries in Asia-Pacific, including Vietnam, to achieve sustainable development goals in the environmental sector.

Hanoi (VNA) –
The Institute ofStrategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment and the AsianDevelopment Bank recently held a workshop to launch a technical assistanceproject for countries in Asia-Pacific, including Vietnam, to achievesustainable development goals in the environmental sector.

The project aims to enhance capacity toimplement and monitor environmental sustainable development targets.

In Vietnam, the project focuses on reviewingenvironmental indicators and identifying financial resources for the country’snatural resources and environment sector. 

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ofthe United Nations was adopted at the UN Summit from September 25-27, 2015, inNew York, the US, with 17 sustainable development goals and 169criteria. Global sustainable development goals and criteria differ foreach nation and depend on their priorities and policies.

In Vietnam, the national action plan for theimplementation of the UN agenda was issued by the Government on May 10, 2017,with 17 targets and 115 criteria.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment wastasked to coordinate with ministries, agencies and localities in implementingthe plan.
Various ministries, the State Bank of Vietnam and 22provinces have promulgated action plans to carry out the agenda.

The Ministry of Natural Resources andEnvironment is building an action plan to realise sustainable development goalsin Vietnam. 

The draft plan has been basically completed,defining common targets and an implementation roadmap.-VNA

Wutip storm ravages central Vietnam, leaving tr෴ail of destruction

Vietnam ramps upꦰ plastic waste recy🍷cling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
