Ten thousand families in Quang Tri lack daily water due to drought
About 10,000 families in the central province of Quang Tri are in a shortage of water for daily use due to a prolonged drought, according to the province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Quang Tri (VNA) –About 10,000 families in the central province of Quang Tri are in a shortage ofwater for daily use due to a prolonged drought, according to the province’sDepartment of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The situation is most serious inHuong Hoa district, where 4,500 households have been affected by the shortage.Dakrong district has 2,700 households, Cam Lo district 2,300, and the remainingare in coastal communes in Hai Lang and Trieu Phong districts.
Precipitation at only 50-60percent of those in normal years since the beginning of this year has resultedin local rivers and streams drying up. As of the beginning of August, waterstorage in most reservoirs in Quang Tri is at one fifth of their designcapacity and continues to reduce.
Another cause behind the watershortage for daily use in rural areas is the poor performance of water supplysystems, with more than 50 out of the 200 existing systems no longer operating.
The province has adopted thesolution of storing water in tanks to supply water to residents, whileupgrading water supply systems.
About 2,400 ha of agricultural crops in the province havealso suffered from severe drought.-VNA
Farmers in Ninh Thuan are not growing any summer – autumn crop on more than 1,500ha of land due to lack of water, according to the south-central province’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The south central province of Binh Dinh is experiencing its most serious drought in the last 15 years, with 4,000 households and 3,400ha of crops lacking water.
If extreme heat continues in the central region until the end of the dry season, about 65,500ha of rice and annual crops will suffer from drought and water scarcity, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
