Bangkok (VNA/NNT) 𝓡– The Thai government is using the e-commerce platform to connect Thai cooperatives to the rest of the world, with the aim of raising farmers’ incomes.

Lt Gen Sunsern Kaewkumnerd, the government spokesperson, said the government is encouraging Thai farmers to form a community enterprise or a cooperative in order to increase their negotiating power. He said it will be easier for the government to fund groups than individuals.
Currently, there are 107 Co-op Distribution Centers (CDCs) nationwide and the number is likely to rise due to the demand by farmers, he said, adding that these centres generated 6.3 billion THB for farmers between October 2015 and May 2016. Furthermore, he said the government is also helping farmers to sell their products online in accordance with the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy, which seeks to make Thailand a digital economy.
Farm products including rice, fruit, and coffee are being sold on www.co-opclick.com. E-commerce businesses in Thailand have been growing exponentially. In 2015 alone, the industry hauled in 2.2 trillion THB and the figure is expected to surge year after year. The government, meanwhile, has opened a number of learning centres for entrepreneurs who wish to enter the e-commerce industry.-VNA
