Bangkok (VNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on November 27 accused the United Front for Democracy against Dictators🌃hip (UDD) - the political wing of the “Red Shirts” of being behind an alleged scheme to instigate unrest and attacks targeting key figures of the government.
According to the government, those targeted for attacks by the group include the PM and Deputy PM and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon.
Earlier, the Thai army arrested a former police officer and a civilian in Khon Kaen province for involvement in the scheme.
National Chief Police Gen Chakthip Chaijinda had said the suspects face charges of breaching Article 112 of the Criminal Code, known as the lese majeste law, and violating the Computer Act after authorities found them “hatching a plot to stir unrest in the city of Bangkok” and discussing an attack plan via the Line application.
Previously, Thai police has warned a plot to cause chaos in the capital during the Loy Krathong festival, the King’s birthday, the “ Bike for Dad” event and during 2016 New Year celebrations.
UDD Chairman Jatuporn Prompan said that the alleged plot was a fabrication to lowering the prestige of the front and covering up for the Rajabhakti Park corruption.
He asserted the UDD has maintained a peaceful approach and has no plans to act against the government.-VNA
