Thai PM visits cave where search for 13 trapped continues

Bangkok (VNA) – Thai Prime Minister PrayutChan-o-cha on June 29 visited a cave in the northern province of Chieng Raiwhere 12 boys and their soccer coach are believed to be trapped for nearly aweek.

From June 29 morning, boxes containing food and water, map,mobile phone were released into the water. It is expected to be picked up asthe water flows toward the cave's mouth.

Police reportedly began dropping plastic boxes withessentials into a hole on the ground, hoping they will somehow get to the boys.

International rescue teams, including one sent by the US Indo-Pacific Command, are assisting the Thaiarmy, navy and police in the search, which has been hampered by heavy rain.

The Thai authorities said that they believed the trapped couldhave reached a large, dry cavern, and officials were considering drillingthrough the mountaintop to reach them.

Tham Luang is one of Thailand's the longest caves. Touristsare warned not to enter the cave from July-November due to high risk of flood.-VNA
