Thailand - biggest food exporter in ASEAN

Thailand earned 24 billion USD from export of food in 2016, making the country the biggest food exporter in ASEAN and 12th in the world, according to the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand earned 840billion baht (24 billion USD) from export of food in 2016, making the countrythe biggest food exporter in ASEAN and 12th in the world, according to the Universityof Thai Chamber of Commerce.

Rice, processed chicken, canned aquatic products,semi-cooked and frozen shrimp and sauce were key items contributing to thegrowth.

The value of Thai food exports is projected togrow by eight percent in 2017 to 26 billion USD thanks to more value-added fooditems and higher global demand.

The government has targeted the world’s hub forfood development and research as well as food innovations to sell higher-valuefood abroad.

Thailand is among rice exporters Mexico has givenquota for long grain rice.


Mexico is the fourth largest importer of Thairice after the United States, Uruguay, and Argentina. In 2016, around 7,690tonnes of Thai rice was exported to Mexico.-VNA
