Bangkok (VNA) 🗹– The Thai government will apply tougher steps to political troublemakers in the run-up to a referendum on the draft constitution.

The statement was made by Army commander- in-chief Gen Teerachai Nakawanich, who is also Secretary General of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on May 3.
Speaking with the press about the response of authorities towards anti-draft constitution activities, the general said some of “the same old faces” have stirred up public unrest while affirming that he would deal with those people himself if they stir up trouble. The Thai Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) announced on March 29 the new draft constitution which is expected to be a solution for the decade long political crisis in the country.
The Thai Election Commission has issued regulations on referendums which came into effect on May 2 and any violation to the law will be prosecuted. If the draft constitution is passed after the referendum, which is slated for August 7, a general election will be held in July 2017.-VNA
