Thailand detects community infections of COVID-19 after relaxing restrictions

Hanoi (VNA) – Thailand announced on December 18 four new communityinfections of COVID-19 just one day after the country easedrestrictions to allow tourists to return.  

 The new cases comprised a 67-year-old woman andthree of her family members in the Samut Sakhon province.

Health authorities said the woman did nothave a history of travelling outside the country, adding they were waiting forthe results of the tests of 165 other people who had been in close contact withthe woman.

"We are collecting information to findthe origins of this infection," said Disease Control Department director-general,Opas Karnkawinpong.

Over recent months the new casesof COVID-19 in Thailand have been in the single-digits, with most of them foundin people in quarantine. Most recent cases in the country were imported.  

Thailand has so far recorded 4,297cases of COVID-19 and 60 fatalities from the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Indonesia recorded 6,689new COVID-19 cases on December 18, raising the total count to 650,197 , along with124 deaths,  bringing the totalfatalities to 19,514./.
