Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Cabinet has approved the setting up of a NationalDigital Trade Platform and assigned the Office of the Public Sector DevelopmentCommission (OPDC) to work with related agencies and the Joint StandingCommittee of Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB) to achieve this.

Local media quoted Rachada Dhnadirek, Deputy Government Spokesperson ofThailand, as saying that Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has also calledon all sectors to make the development of the digital platform part of thenational agenda and link it with the ASEAN Single Window to create an onlinetrading system with other Southeast Asian nations.

Because of the different levels of digital development in the public andprivate sectors, and an inefficient connection system, the new National DigitalTrade Platform (NDTP) will bring the central system linking the internationaldigital trade data up to the same standards as every other country.

The NDTP will also become a central platform connecting with the NationalSingle Window System (NSW), which will provide online import-export datarelated to customs, export agents, freight forwarders, shipping and airlinecompanies, and will also be linked with 36 government agencies that issuelicences and certifications.

The platform is expected to improve the trading system and hasten the serviceprocess for private companies, thereby reducing the time and cost spent oncompleting transactions.

It will also enhance transparency and give small- and medium-sized enterprisesbetter opportunities to trade internationally and have easier access to funds.

In the first phase, the new system will focus on four types of documents, namely purchase order, invoicing, shipping instructions and sea waybills, toshorten the process of exporting goods.-VNA
