Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Thailand's Department of Trade Negotiations ispreparing for the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials Meeting due to take place betweenJanuary 12 and 18. The meeting will be the first such meeting since Thailandassumed the bloc's chairmanship.
Director-General of the Department of Trade Negotiations, Oramon Saptaweetam,said discussions will focus on facilitating trade through measures such as anelectronic customs system across all 10 member nations and enabling self-certificationof product origin to reduce export costs and time. The meeting will alsodiscuss the implications of the 4th industrial revolution and make preparationsfor the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) meeting in Bali.
As the ASEAN region is Thailand's No.1 trade partner, accounting for 22.7percent of all of the country's trade, Mrs Oramon said her office will focus onreducing barriers to boost trade activity and help Thai businesses deal withnew challenges. - NNT/VNA
