Thailand moves toward third phase of digital landscape development plan

The Thai government is moving towards the third phase of Thailand's digital landscape development plan in a bid to reach the top 30 of the World Digital Competitiveness Ranking, with the digital economy contributing 30% of the country's GDP in five years.

Bangkok (VNA)🌃 – TheThai government is moving towards the third phase of Thailand's digitallandscape development plan in a bid to reach the top 30 of the World DigitalCompetitiveness Ranking, with the digital economy contributing 30% of thecountry's GDP in five years.

During a recent meeting of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission chaired by PrimeMinister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the upgradedversion of the 2023-2027 plan was approved.

Thailand ranked 40th in the 2022ranking, falling two spots from 2021.

The plan promotes the full digitaltransformation of the country. The first phase focused on the creation ofdigital infrastructure, while the second phase pursued digital techinclusiveness. The third phase was formulated in line with the rapidchange of global economic and social structures

The PM stressed that in terms of policy and anational plan for digital development, Thailand needs to prioritise botheconomic and social developments. All the elements need to be reviewed everytwo years to keep up with changes.

ℱ Minister of DigitalEconomy and Society Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn said the commission'smeeting also touched on the fourth phase of digital development, with the goalof making Thailand a leading country in the global digital sphere.

The fourth phase aims to see the digital economycontribute at least 50% of Thai GDP and move the country into the top 20 of therankings, as well as second place in ASEAN, he said./.
