Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand has se🥀t up the Fishermen’s Life Enhancement Centre in the southern province of Songkhla to tackle human trafficking and illegal labour and to support migrant workers.

The centre, the first of its kind in Thailand, was established by the country’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare under the Ministry of Labour, the Fish Marketing Organisation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and several private companies.
It aims to form a volunteers’ network to support migrant workers and protect them from human trafficking. It will also serve as a learning centre for migrant workers and their families and provide first aid and religious services for them.
It is expected that about 25,000 Cambodian, Lao, and Myanmar workers and their families living in the southern region of Thailand will benefit from the centre’s services. The project will be carried out until 2020 and is expected to become a model in taking care of foreign workers in the country.-VNA
