Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – The Thai military are ready to assist Laos insearch and rescue operations for villagers reportedly missing due to thecurrent flooding in southern Laos. 

Ministry of Defence Spokesman Lt Gen KongcheepTantravanich said Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwanhas ordered military units to assist the Lao authorities in the search andrescue operations for the missing flood victims in southern Laos. 

The Thai military will establish a joint command to providepersonnel from the army, navy and air forces, as well as equipment and vehiclessuch as C130 aircraft and boats. They are currently waiting for an officialrequest from Laos and then the armed forces will deploy the aid operationsimmediately. 

The military spokesman said the defence minister has alsoinstructed military units to review their experience from the search and rescueoperations at Tham Luang cave in order to get well prepared for similarsituations.-NNT/VNA
