The Thai Ministry of Commerce is planning to promote the country’s Halal food products in the global market by cooperating with public and private sectors. According to Permanent Secretary of the ministry Chutima Boonyaprapassorn, demand for Halal food has been growing among Muslims around the world. It is estimated that there will be 2.8 billion Muslims in 35 years' time.
The Thai government is determined to make Thailand one of the world’s five largest Halal food exporters by the end of 2020. The halal food export value is also expected to increase fivefold, from 6 billion USD recorded last year to 30 billion USD in 2020.
The ministry is now placing greater emphasis on promoting food, garment, jewelry products and spa services among Muslim consumers. The Central Islamic of Thailand will work alongside the Ministry of Commerce in making sure services and products are in compliance with the Halal principles.-VNA/NNT
