Thailand to sell all rice reserves in 2017

Bangkok (VNA) ꦗ– ThaiPrime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said the country is determined to sell all therice in national reserves this year, reported local media on January 17.

The government will resume rice auctionsin Q1 of 2017. Since the beginning of the rice selling programme in 2015,national reserves have fell to about eight million tonnes from 18.7 milliontonnes. The Government will devise an auctionplan for rice suitable for human consumption, though detailed schedule has yetto be fixed. Thailand was one of the world’sleading rice exporters in 2016 with 9.63 million tonnes, along with India,Vietnam and Pakistan.-VNA
