Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand stands ready to welcome foreign investments in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), Industry Minister Uttama Savanyana told foreign diplomats.

The investments, made under the public-private partnership (PPP) form, will be carried out in 2019. In the coming time, as part of efforts to attract investment in accordance with the freshly issued EEC law, the Industry Ministry will set up a fund to secure the projects and give out a road map for the construction of an EEC city in 2018.

It will launch roadshows to promote EEC in Europe, China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

Thailand hopes that the EEC project, which covers three provinces of the country’s eastern area - Chachoengsao, Chonburi and Rayong in an area of 13,285 square kilometres, will help increase Thailand’s GDP growth to 5 percent by 2020 from earlier forecast of 3.5 percent.

With the target of building a Thai Silicon valley in the EEC, the government is encouraging the development of 10 sectors, including new-generation vehicles, smart electronic equipment, healthcare tourism, agriculture, industrial robot, logistics and aviation, and healthcare services.
