Bangkok (VNA) – Thai envoys to neighbouringcountries and 32 governors of its border provinces will meet in a two-daymeeting since August 9 with the theme of “Synergised efforts to enhancesecurity, prosperity, and sustainable development in the Border Provinces”.

Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry ofthe Interior co-organises the meeting to boost their collaboration inimplementation of the 20-year National Strategy and Sustainable Thainesspolicy.

The two ministries are cooperating toward security,prosperity and sustainable development of border areas.

As scheduled, on August 9, Thai Ambassadors and ConsulsGeneral to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam and the 32 borderprovincial governors, together with representatives from 19 agencies, willparticipate in a workshop.

They will discuss opportunities and challenges in thesub-region as well as identify joint projects and collaboration mechanismsbetween the two ministries.

The next day, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will chairthe plenary session to provide policy guidelines and feedback in response toproposals submitted by the workshop.

The session will also see the attendance of Deputy PrimeMinister Somkid Jatusripitak, Minister of Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai, and Ministerof Interior General Anupong Paochinda.

The two ministries’ joint efforts aim at promoting securityand stability within the sub-region through trust-based cooperation withneighbouring countries and building safe border areas.

They also target continuous growth of trade and investmentbetween Thailand and its neighbouring countries as well as connectivity inmainland Southeast Asia.

The ministries also want to reduce development disparitiesin border provinces and uplift the quality of people’s lives via inclusive andintegrated government services.-VNA
