Thanh Hoa police hunt for man accused of overthrow attempt

Thanh Hoa (VNA) – Police of the central provinceof Thanh Hoa has issued a wanted notice for a 27-year-old man accused of“attempting to overthrow the people’s administration”.
Police said when studying at Hong DucUniversity, Nguyen Van Trang, who resides in Thanh Loc commune of Hau Locdistrict, had repeatedly violated the school’s regulations and made extremestatements.
After he was expelled from the university, Trangtook part in the “Hoi anh em dan chu” (Brotherhood for Democracy), areactionary organisation involved in illegal activities aiming to eliminate theleadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and overthrow the people’sadministration.
He often used his Facebook account under thename Trang Nguyen (Vo Danh Khach) to post stories, images and video clips thatdistorted the Party and State’s guidelines and policies, slandered thepolitical regime and incited other people to join demonstrations or cause publicdisorder.
On November 27, Thanh Hoa police launchedcriminal proceedings against Trang over the charge of “attempting to overthrowthe people’s administration”.
As Trang has not stayed in the localityrecently, the police has put him on the wanted list. –VNA
The People’s Court of the central province of Nghe An sentenced Le Dinh Luong to 20 years in jail for “attempting to overthrow the people’s administration” under Clause 1 of Article 79 and Articles 38, 39 and 92 of the 1999 Penal Code at the first-instance trial on August 16.
The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Procuracy on August 22 proposed strict penalties for 12 defendants, who are members of a reactionary organisation, for conducting “activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s administration.”

The People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City handed down jail sentences of between 8-15 years to five men for “attempting to overthrow the people’s administration” under Article 79 of the Penal Code at a first-instance trial held on October 5.
The Hanoi high-level People’s Court on October 18 upheld the imprisonment sentence for a defendant found guilty of “trying to overthrow the people’s administration” at a first-instance trial two months ago.
