Thanh Hoa’s tourism needs reform towards sustainable development

Thanh Hoa (VNA) – Bestowed with gorgeous natural landscapes anddiverse cultural space, the northerncentral province of Thanh Hoa has huge potential to branch out a wide range oftourism products, however, it faces calls for reform towards sustainabletourism development.
At a conference held in the locality on June 19, experts recommended that excellenttourism products must have close connection with local people and culture whilecalling for more investment projects in tourism infrastructure.
Along with improving the efficiency of investment promotion campaigns to lurebusinesses with financial strengths to invest in strategic and high-endprojects, it is necessary for the province to develop standout tourism packagestogether with protecting natural sceneries.
Furthermore, the province was advised to join hands with Hanoi, Ho Chi MinhCity, eight northwestern provinces, northern coastal provinces and northern centralcoastal localities to study and build common inter-region tourism products,they added.
Lauding suggestions of the experts, Vice Director of the provincial Departmentof Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Thi Hai Yen expressed her hope that theprovince’s tourism sector will be accompanied by enterprises and media agenciesin the coming time.
The department will recommend solutions to the provincial People’s Committee topopularise tourist attractions, lure visitors and connect local tourism spotsto create a breakthrough for the non-smoke sector, turning Thanh Hoa into anational and international tourism hub soon, she said.
Last year, the province welcomed 7 million arrivals and earned 8 trillion VND (352million USD) from tourism services, up 11.5 percent from the same time lastyear. The locality targets to serve 8.2 million visitors in 2018 and eyes 10.6trillion VND (466.4 million USD) in tourism revenue.
Many renowned enterprises like FLC and Sun Group have poured capital into thelocal tourism sector. During 2015-2017, 18 tourism infrastructure projects werecarried out while investment licenses were granted for 61 tourism projects withtotal registered capital of nearly 62.5 trillion VND (2.75 billion USD).- VNA
Thanh Hoa is working to open more flights to and from the central province to boost tourism development, according to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
