A group of 52 artists from HCMCity is presenting an overview of current lacquer paintings at theirexhibition at the HCM City Fine Arts College.
Son Mai SaiGon 2011 (Sai Gon Lacquer) features more than 50 works in differentstyles, using the traditional material of lacquer.
Being anative of the northern province of Ha Tay (now part of Hanoi ),the influence of Le Xuan Chieu's birthplace can be seen in his artworks.
The lecturer of the HCM City Fine Arts Collegehighlighted work is Ho Guom (Sword Lake), featuring Vietnamese girlsin traditional costume ao dai (traditional long dress) at Ho Guom, alandmark of Hanoi .
Like Chieu, landscapes andbeautiful women are also sources of inspiration of veteran artists like83-year-old Hoang Tram's Ha Long (Ha Long Bay) and Ca Le Dung's Xom CauVan (Cau Van Village).
This year's exhibition featuresworks of artists born in the 1980s, including students of the Fine ArtsCollege Tran Thi Ngoc Linh and Vu Thi Thuy Dung.
Theyoungest participant, Linh of the college, brings a modern breath andimage to her lacquer work. Linh's Toi Dang Lang Nghe (I Am Listening)portrays a girl in modern clothes listening to music with an earphone.
Held for the first time last year, the event falls on December 21 ofthe lunar calendar, the day that honours the memory of the ancestor whofounded Vietnamese lacquer-making.

Nguyen Trong Nha Uyen has made history for Vietnam’s dancesport by clinching a bronze medal in the solo Latin category at the WDSF World Championship 2025 in Germany.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
