Thermal dioxin desorption system started in Da Nang

A thermal desorption system was put into operation at Da Nang airport on April 19, as part of a US-funded project to clean up dioxin-contaminated soil and sediment in the central city.
A thermal desorption system was put into operation at Da Nang airporton April 19, as part of a US-funded project to clean updioxin-contaminated soil and sediment in the central city.

The event saw the presence of Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, and US Ambassador David Shea.

Up to 45,000 cb.m of contaminated soil and sediment will be dug andplaced in containers. Once being heated up to a temperature of 335degrees Celsius, nearly 95 percent of dioxin will be destroyed.
The two governments plan to conclude the four-year project by late 2016.

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
