Thousands of Khmer households get access to power

Soc Trang (VNA) – As many as 45,322 Khmer households in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang have been connected to the nat꧙ional power grid thanks to a project launched in 2011.

Nguyen Phuoc Duc, Deputy Director General of the Southern Power Corporation reported on the project’s outcome at a ceremony marking its completion on August 23.
At a total cost of 368 billion VND (16.56 million USD), the project has built 457 km of medium voltage transmission lines and over 1,437 km of low-voltage cable, exceeding the targets by 153km and 570km, respectively, according to Duc. It also installed 825 transformer stations with the total capacity of 18.650.5 kVA, an increase of 326 transformers and 7,890kVA compared with the set targets.
Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Ngo Hung hailed the joint efforts made by stakeholders to complete the project on schedule. Soc Trang is home to around 400,000 Khmer ethnic people, who account for 30.7 percent of the province’s population.-VNA
