Hanoi (VNA) - Heavy downpours areexpected in the northern region until June 21, with warnings of flash floodsand landslides in mountainous provinces.

The National Centre for Hydro–MeteorologicalForecasting (NCHMF) announced on June 18 that a rainy spell would affect thenorthern region, including Hanoi, starting Sunday night.

The average rainfall will range between 70 to150mm, and could reach up to 200mm in some areas, said the NCHMF. Tornado, hailand wind gusts are likely, according to the weather forecasting centre.

It also warned of flooding on the Thao, Lo, BangGiang and Ky Cung rivers as water could rise by two or threemetres.  Lai Chau, Son La, Ha Giang, Cao Bang and Bac Kan provincescould be inundated, the NCHMF warned. - VNA

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to monitor seawaterꦜ quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.
