The tourism industry in the central province of Thua Thien- Hue hasimplemented a series of measures, from introducing large-scale tourismadvertising campaigns to promoting their products and services atdomestic and foreign trade fairs, in a bid to attract moreholiday-makers to the area.
According to the provincialDepartment of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the locality has welcomednearly 2.3 million tourists so far this year, representing ayear-on-year increase of approximately 14 percent, raking in over1,854 billion VND.
Over the four-day holiday for National Day(August 30-September 2) alone, Thua Thien-Hue greeted over 40.600visitors, one-tenth of whom were from abroad.
The province hasset a target to welcome 2.8-3 million tourists in 2014, which will inturn generate an increase in revenue of 16-18 percent.
A 230,000USD project to foster sustainable tourism development is being carriedout in Thua Thien-Hue with support from the International LabourOrganisation and UNESCO.
It focusses on developing eco-tourism,improving the business climate, making tourism enterprises aware oftheir responsibilities, and training hospitality personnel.
Inaddition to improving the quality of tourism services, the locality isworking with other authorities in the southern region to develop newtours.
The provincial Department of Culture, Sports andTourism has undertaken a number of familiarisation trips to the MekongDelta localities, such as Can Tho city, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau, to explorepossible tours and tourist destinations.
The localauthorities plan to increase their promotional efforts until the end ofthe year by hosting fam trip delegations from Japan, the Republic ofKorea and Thailand to survey the province and region’s tourismpotential.
One of the locality’s must-see destinations is Hue,once the feudal and imperial capital of Vietnam under the last dynastyof Nguyen (1802-1945). The UNESCO-recognised heritage is now a quietcity in central Vietnam with a wealth of imperial buildings, pagodas andtombs. The city has a rich culture, featuring numerous traditions, andthe region’s architecture and cuisine summon memories of the long-goneNguyen era.
In addition to the ancient imperial citadel, ThuaThien-Hue province attracts visitors for its beautiful landscapes, suchas Lang Co, one of the world’s most beautiful bays, and the TamGiang-Cau Hai lagoon system, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia.-VNA
