Thua Thien-Hue moves to promote tourism

The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has launched a number of new international and local tours to promote tourism potential of Hue imperial city and other destinations in the central regions in foreign countries.

The Hue-Bangkok tour launched last week forms part ofkey activities to connect tourism products of the central relic sitewith the world’s heritages, including Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Seoul inthe Republic of Korea, and the ancient capital of Kyoto in Japan.

The Central Heritage Road is among tours connecting the centralcities of Hue and Da Nang and central Quang Nam province to fully tapthe tourism potential in the central region. It has been promoted atseveral international tourism trade fairs in Seoul, the RoK.

The tour connects the UNESCO-recognised tangible and intangibleworld’s heritages, including the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park inQuang Binh, the Complex of Hue Monuments, the “nha nhac” (royal courtmusic) in the ancient Hue citadel of central Hue city, the Hoi Anancient town and the My Son Sanctuary in Quang Nam province, amongother beautiful landscapes in Da Nang.

Hueimperial city has upgraded hundreds of key architectural works since itwas recognised by the UNESCO as world cultural heritages in 2003.

The Hue Relics Preservation Centre plans to restore 22 relic sitesthis year at a total cost of 150 billion VND (7 million USD), includingthe royal tombs of the kings of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945).

The projects are part of the programme to preserve and protect theComplex of Hue Monuments, worth nearly 10 million USD and funded by 26international governments and organisations.

Thue Thien-Hue is also focused on preserving intangible cultural valueswhile improving the quality of traditional art performances, rituals,and tourism facilities. It also offers discounts and organisesexhibitions to lure more tourists.

Four goldentourism weeks have been launched this year in Hue city to lure moretourists. The first two took place in April and June this year and theother two are expected to be held from September 2-8 to mark the 70thanniversary of National Day (September 2), and from December 24-30 towelcome the 2016 New Year.

The province willaccelerate construction of road facilities including the Dien Bien Phuroad leading to relic sites in the southwest of the city, the tunnelunder the Phuoc Tuong and Phu Gia pass, and a waterways facility system.

Other investment will be focused on upgrades toa number of items in the centre as well as museums, internationalflights, and external promotion campaigns carried out in Hong Kong(China), the RoK and Japan.

In the first half ofthis year, the province welcomed nearly 1.6 million tourists including572,000 foreigners and earned 1.4 trillion VND (65.4 million USD), up 2percent from the same period last year, according to Phan Thanh Hai,Director of the Hue Relics Preservation Centre.

The centre itself received nearly 1.1 million visitors, half of who wereinternational tourists, receiving more than 100 billion VND (4.67million USD).-VNA
