Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) - The seventh congressof the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in the central province of ThuaThien - Hue took place in Hue city on March 15-16 with 1,200 delegates anddignitaries participating.
The congress elected 69 members for the VBSExecutive Committee for the 2017-2020 tenure, with Most Venerable Thich DucThanh elected as its Chairman.
The VBS Thua Thien – Hue chapter plans tocontinue motivating Buddhist followers to observe law and promote Buddhistactivities for the development of the religion and the nation.
In the last tenure, local dignitaries andBuddhist followers raised more than 105 billion VND (4.62 million USD) to helplocal poor households and give gifts and scholarships to needy students,victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, build houses, and provide free healthcheck-ups.
The chapter has also held numerous activities tomark lord Buddha’s birthday, Vu Lan festival, and pray for peace.
A number of dignitaries have received orders, medalsand certificates of merit for their contributions to the religion and thenation.-VNA
A ceremony to celebrate the 35th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha took place at Vietnam Quoc Tu (national pagoda) in Ho Chi Minh City on November 5.
The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) should encourage Buddhist monks, nuns and followers nationwide nationwide to actively join movements, humanitarian and charitable activities initiated by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, contributing to the nation’s development, a front official has said.
