Hanoi (VNA) – Timor-Leste citizenscast their votes on March 20 to elect the country’s fourth president.

Among the eight candidates, the 62-year-oldPresident of the Revolutionary Front for an Independent Timor Leste FranciscoGuterres, is the most favourite. He failed the Presidential elections in 2007and 2012.

Guterres’ main rival this year isDemocratic Party politician Antonio da Conceicao, 52, who is holding twominister posts in the cabinet.

According to Timor-Leste Constitution, acandidate winning an absolute majority of the vote will become President for afive-year term. In case of no landslide victory, a runoff will be held for twocandidates with the highest votes in the first round.

Timor-Leste was separated from Indonesia in2002 after a referendum in 1999.-VNA
