Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnamand President Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception in Hanoi on February 20 forSecretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee andMinister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamfong.
Minister LilayLakhamfong congratulated Vietnam on its important achievements in recent times,and expressed his delight at the sound development of the Laos-Vietnam specialsolidarity which has brought about practical benefits for both peoples.
Informing the host ofLaos’ recent situation, especially in national security work, and the outcomesof the talks between the two public security ministries, he affirmed that theLao ministry will coordinate closely with the Vietnamese side to effectivelycarry out the signed cooperation agreements.
Hailing thesignificance of the visit by the Lao newly-accredited Minister of PublicSecurity, the Vietnamese Party and State leader affirmed that the Lao ministryhas contributed to the development of the Vietnam-Laos special relations.
Speaking of theoutcomes of the talks, as well as the results of cooperation between the twoministries, he stressed that their relationship deserves to be a pillar in thetwo countries’ ties.
He asked both sides tomaintain close coordination in protecting national security and maintainingsocial safety and order; step up information exchanges; and support each otherat regional and international forums on crime prevention and control,especially in cross-border crimes.–VNA
Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung highlighted the crucial role of energy cooperation with Laos during a reception in Hanoi on February 18 for Lao Minister of Energy and Mines Khammany Inthirath.
The cooperation between Hanoi and Vientiane police has been carried out more effectively in recent years, Major General Boupha Shiphoma, Director of Vientiane police, said at a meeting with Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Le Hong Son on February 19.
Two-way trade between Laos and Vietnam exceeded 1 billion USD in 2018, up 13 percent annually and surpassing the set target, according to the Lao Laophatthana newspaper.

The country is willing to participate in collective efforts to promote cooperation and mobilise resources to advance the current priority issues of developing countries, such as trade, investment, infrastructure connectivity, making the most of scientific and technological advances for development, and people-to-people exchanges, Hang said.
During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
