Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnamesetourism firms signed a commitment to fighting wildlife trading and protect thespecies at a workshop in Hanoi on December 14.

The workshop, jointly organised by the Institute for Tourism DevelopmentResearch under the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and TRAFFIC,the wildlife trade monitoring network, drew the participation ofinternational and domestic tourism experts and business representatives.

Director of the institute Nguyen Anh Tuan saidthe workshop aims to encourage tourism firms and hotels to join the fight againstthe illegal use and trading of wildlife, including rhino horns.

The event also developed a master actionplan to protect and reduce wildlife consumption and include t the issue intheir codes of conduct of the tourism organisations and firms.

Participants heard reports on the role andimportance of wild species for biodiversity and habitats; the wildlife use andtrading in Vietnam and the world; and related legal documents.-VNA

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensing to m൲onitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Vietnam ramps up plastic was🧸te recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
