Travel demand during Lunar New Year 2024 higher than last year
Vietnamese carriers Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines and Vasco have offered over 6 million tickets for sale to meet rising travel demand during Lunar New Year (Tet) 2024, which is forecast to be higher than last year.

Accordingto the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the Vietnamese airlines operated a total of 221,197 flights in the first nine months of this year. Of which, Vietnam Airlines Group, comprising Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines andVasco, operated over 100,000 flights, or about 45% of the market share. It wasfollowed by Vietjet Air with 83,933 flights, equivalent to 38%; and Bamboo Airways 32,538flights, roughly 15%. The domesticairlines also recorded a 15% rate of delayed flights, equivalent to 33,227 flights. Thecancellation rate was 0.3%, with 715 flights being cancelled. TheCAAV said late arrival of aircraft remained the leading cause of delayedtakeoffs during this period. Specifically,Vietjet Air took the lead in terms of delayed flights with 16,520 ones,accounting for nearly 20% of the total run by the airline.

🌱 PacificAirlines came second in the rate of delayed flights, recording2,559 ones, or 15.8%. Vietravel Airlines recorded 10,671 delayed flights, making up13.5%.
BambooAirways reported 2,470 delayed flights, accounting for 7.6% of the total, maintaining itsposition as the most punctual airline during the period. It also stood out witha low cancellation rate, which was 0.2% of the total. In the January-September period, there were 187,970 on-time flights, or 85% of the total./.
The upcoming holidays of Hung Kings Commemoration Day, National Reunification and May Day from April 29 to May 3 are expected to be a good chance for transport enterprises to accelerate operations to better serve people’s increasing travel demand.
Vietjet is opening a series of new international routes, including Ho Chi Minh City - Kochi (India), Da Nang – Hong Kong (China), Phu Quoc – Hong Kong, Da Nang - Singapore, Da Nang - Daegu (the Republic of Korea), Nha Trang - Seoul (Incheon, the RoK), to meet travel demand in summer.
The domestic aviation market is projected to grow by 7-10% during the summer this year compared to the same period in 2019, reaching 3.5-3.7 million passengers per month (in June and August), and 4.2-4.5 million passengers in July, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
