Turkish cueist wins UMB World Cup

Turkish cueist Tasdemir Tayfun, previously ranked World No11 in the event, bested Blomdahl Torbjorn of Sweden, seeded No 1, to win 2015's Three Cushion Billiards World Cup in HCM City on August 16.
Turkish cueist Tasdemir Tayfun, previously ranked World No11 in the event, bested Blomdahl Torbjorn of Sweden, seeded No 1, to win 2015's Three Cushion Billiards World Cup in HCM City on August 16. Earlier in the tournament, Tasdemir Tayfun defeated Cho Jae Ho of the Republic of Korea No 6 after a nail-biting penalty round in the semifinal. On August 16, Tayfun won with a 40 - 34 victory over Torbjorn to become this year's world champion title-holder and take home the 5,500 USD in winnings.
Eddy Merckx of Belgium and Cho Jae Ho came in third place at the tournament. Vietnam had six cueists represent in the main round. Tran Quyet Thang No17 reached the quarterfinals after beating last year's world champion, Frederic Caudron from Belgium.
This is the first time UMB World Cup was held in Vietnam. The tournament involved more than 140 players from 17 countries around the world.-VNA

☂ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
