Two Russians drown at Nha Trang beach

– Two Russian tourists were found dead at Pham VanDong beach, in Nha Trang city in the central province of Khanh Hoa, on February12.

According to Chairman of the People’sCommittee of Phuoc Hai ward Le Hang Nhat Tuan, the incident occurred at around11am when the two men, born in 1947 and 1978, were washed away by strong waves.

Rescuers of the Nha Trang Bay ManagementBoard were sent immediately to the scene, but strong waves hampered rescue workand the victims were found to be dead when brought to shore.

Their bodies were then taken to theprovincial General Hospital for preservation. The local Department of ForeignAffairs is coordinating with relevant offices to identify the two victims andconduct procedures by regulation.

Strong waves often occur at Pham Van Dongbeach, Vinh Hai ward. Warning boards on a swimming ban in Vietnamese, English,and Russian are installed along the beach, but many foreign tourists ignore thesign and swim there regardless. –VNA
